His training in urologic surgery took place at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. His residency was highlighted by his time at the Norris Cancer Center, one of the pioneering institutions of urologic surgery, training under Dr. Donald G. Skinner, Dr. John P. Stein, Dr. Eila C. Skinner and Dr. David F. Penson. In addition, he had the fortune of training with Dr. David Ginsberg in female urology and spinal cord injury both at the USC university hospital and at the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. Finally, his interest in laparoscopic urologic surgery was nurtured by Dr. Matthew Dunn a national figure in the field of minimally invasive urologic surgery.

Dr. Hsu’s fields of interest include minimally invasive surgery (both endoscopic and laparoscopic), oncologic surgery, nephrolithiasis, incontinence and voiding dysfunction.

He is excited to join the thriving San Mateo region and especially thrilled to be joining the practices of Drs. Caro and Hoang.

Outside of medicine, his interests veer to the outdoors, including hiking, climbing and snow boarding. He also enjoys a wide array of music, ranging from classical to big band swing to independent rock.
